Ξεφεύγοντας λίγο από τα μοντέλα της GW, έβαψα μια μικρή λίστα Maroons για το LoTHS που περίμενε αρκετό καιρό την σειρά της για βάψιμο. Οι κανόνες της λίστας βρίσκονται εδώ.

Maroons ονομάζονταν οι αφρικανοί φυγάδες δούλοι στην Καραιβική, που ήδη από τον 16ο αιώνα έφτιαχναν αυτόνομους οικισμούς μακρυά από τις αποικίες των Ευρωπαίων. Πολλές φορές οι maroons ανακατευόντουσαν και με τους ινδιάνους γηγενής για να αντιμετωπίσουν μαζί τον κίνδυνο τον λευκών.
Maroons is the name used for the african runaway sclaves in the Carribean at hte age of piracy. As early as in the 16th century, these runaway sclaves used to found autonomous settelments. Pretty often, Maroons were mixed with indian people in order to resist against the white danger.
Τον 17ο αιώνα, οι maroons ήταν πλέον μια υπολογίσημη δύναμη στην καραιβική, βοηθόντας κατά περίπτωση τους πειρατές ή τους κουρσάρους εναντίων (κυρίως) των ισπανών. Η πιο γνωστή περίπτωση συνεργασίας τους με τους Ευρωπαίους, ήταν η επίθεση του Francis Drake στον Παναμά, όπου μαύροι φυγάδες πολέμησαν στο πλευρό του Άγγλου κουρσάρου εναντίων των Ισπανών.
In the 17th century, maroons were an established power in the Caribbean, helping either Pirates or Privateers in their fights against Europeans (mainly against the Spanish). The most well known ocassion of European - maroon alliance was the assault of Francis Drake against Panama, where black fugitives fought with the side of the english privateer agains the Spanish.
Θέλοντας να συμπεριλάβω τους maroons σε σενάρια του LotHS είτε ως αυτόνομο warband, είτε ως συμμάχους, έφτιαξα τους παρακάτω κανόνες. Φυσικά θέλει αρκετό playtest αλλά πιστεύω ότι είναι μια καλή βάση!
I wrote the following rules in order to use maroon warbands in LotHS scenarios, used as an autonomous crew list or as allies of the official crew lists. In any case the rules for Maroons need some playtesting, however I feel that they are a good basis for future games! Maroons
Το Legends of the High Seas (LotHS) είναι ένα γρήγορο και αρκετά διασκεδαστικό skirmish παιχνίδι, βασισμένο στην χρυσή εποχή της πειρατείας (1670-1720). Tο σύστημα μάχης του είναι μια παραλλαγή του Lord of the Rings, με στοιχεία Mordheim, αρκετά "κινηματογραφικό" δηλαδή και εντελώς "χαλαρό".
Legends of the High Seas (LotHS) is a fast and quite amusing skirmish wargame, taking place in the golden age of piracy (1670-1720). The game system is based on Lord of the Rings SBG, having some additions from Mordheim. The result is a quite cinematic and easy to learn game.
Όμως το LotHS είναι παιχνίδι της "Warhammer Historical" και άρα, είναι πρωτίστως καλά ιστορικά δομημένο. Το γεγονός αυτό όπως ο ίδιος ο συγγραφέας των κανόνων (Tim Kulinski) παραδέχθηκε, οδήγησε σε ένα αρκετά αυστηρό ως προς το ιστορικό υπόβαθρο "πειρατικό" wargame.
However, LotHs is a game from "Warhammer Historical" and as a result it is meant to have a strong historical feeling. This has led the game developer to produce a stricht in terms of historical backgroung wargame, although the age of piracy is a wonderfull setting for cinematic (or Hollywood style if you prefer) additions,
Με άλλα λόγια στο LotHS δεν υπάρχουν σκελετοί ή ζόμπι πειρατές ή ότι άλλο φανταστικό σχετίζεται με τους μύθους των πειρατών. Δεν υπάρχουν καν κανόνες για Κινέζους πειρατές ή Άραβες κουρσάρους, μιας και είναι σπάνιες (έως ανύπαρκτες) οι ιστορικές αναφορές για την παρουσία τους στην Καραϊβική τον 17ο αιώνα. Έτσι, το βιβλίο (δυστυχώς) περιορίζεται σε τρία μόνο ήδη πληρωμάτων, τους πειρατές, τους κουρσάρους (privateers) και το αγγλικό πολεμικό ναυτικό.
So, you will not see any sceleton or zombie pirates in LotHS. There are not even rules for Chinese or Barbary Coast Corsairs as the historical references for the presence of such oriental pirates in the caribbean are quite rare. The rulebook only contains three crew types: Pirates, Privateers and the English Royal Navy.
Το γεγονός αυτό όμως δεν πρέπει να περιορίζει του παίκτες μιας και με λίγη φαντασία, λίγο ψάξιμο για το ιστορικό υπόβαθρο και αρκετό playtest, μπορούν να φτιαχτούν εύκολα κανόνες για πολλά warbands (ή crews) που ενήργησαν στην Καραϊβική τον 17ο αιώνα. Πράγματι, στο ίντερνετ (και συγκεκριμένα στο yahoo group του LotHS) κυκλοφορούν ανεπίσημες λίστες για πληρώματα ισπανικού, ολλανδικού και γαλλικού ναυτικού καθώς και κανόνες για Κινέζους πειρατές.
Wargamers should not hesitate to try new things however. With some hollywood insiration, fantasy, history research and of course playtesting, players can easily introduce rules for many different crews. Internet is an excellent source and to be more precise, in the yahoo group of LotHS one can find many unofficial lists for warbands and crews of the era, such as the Spanish, Dutch, French or even Chinese.
Στο παρακάτω αρχείο μάζεψα τις πειραματικές αυτές λίστες πληρωμάτων, μαζί με μερικούς χρήσιμους συνοπτικούς πίνακες που βοηθούν κατά την διάρκεια της μάχης αλλά και τα FAQ/Errata του παιχνιδιού. Είμαι σίγουρος ότι εύκολα μπορούν να δημιουργηθούν κανόνες και για άλλα πληρώματα - φανταστικά ή πραγματικά, αρκεί να υπάρχει όρεξη και φαντασία!
In the following file I have collected these experimental crew lists along with some handy tables that can help you during a LotHS game. The official FAQ/Errata of the game are included as well. I am quite sure that more experimental lists can be easily created for other (historic or fantastic) crews, but for now these are more than enough!
